Economic Development Commission Platform Presented at the Village Board Meeting
The Drive to Encourage Developers We Want to Revitalize Our Village Center
Monday’s Village board meeting included the public hearing and approval to expand the sewer utility boundaries to include part of Richfield. Other parts of Germantown are expected to be added later this fall. With sewer expansion comes development like flies to ointment.
Lest we forget, the result of the referendum, which was to extend sewer and water west to Richfield is working its way through the permit process. The step this week, is one of several. The other agencies include DNR, PSC, MMSD for permission to continue. In the meantime, our village staff are spending time reviewing documents and preparing applications, while we spend money on the village attorney working on gaining right of way permission to go through peoples’ property with these utilities.

Towards the end of the meeting, Trustee Pieper presented the Economic Development Commission’s latest efforts, the strategic platform.
Questions?
What constitutes the village center?
Do we really need more TIFs? The redirection of the revenue from the current ones may cause a referendum to be held to find money for added police and fire personnel.
What is diverse development activity?
Well, you get the idea.
Admittedly, they are in the beginning of this, so we have an opportunity to influence the trajectory. Trustee Pieper is one of the Germantown First members of the village board.
